COMPANY

Manufacturer of clutch surfaces and brake linings, founded 1902 as the A. H. Raymond Company. In 1916 it became the Raybestos Company, in 1929 the Raybestos-Manhattan Friction Materials Company, in 1982 the Raymark Corporation, and in 1986 Raytech Corporation was formed as a holding company. Raytech filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1989. Efforts were made to shield portions of the company from asbestos litigants. Losing a US Supreme Court case, it became 90% owned by the Raytech Corporation Asbestos Personal Injury Trust in 2001.
