Talley Industries
COMPANY
Propellant systems and products, including escape systems and airbaigs. Founded 1960 by Franz G. Talley. In a strategy to eliminate total dependence on the defense sector, in 1968 it acquired The Waterbury Companies (general manufacturer), in 1969 Adorence (ladies apparel importer) and in 1970 General Time (clock manufacturer). These haphazard acquisitions did not fare well, and many of them were sold off. In the 1980s the company's focus had shifted to technical goods and real estate. Talley was acquired in 1997 by Carpenter Technology for $185M plus assumption of debt. It is now a subsidiary, Talley Defense Systems.
