Founded by Harry Sinclair in 1916. Acquired by ARCO in 1969, on the condition that certain East Coast interests be divested to British Petroleum. Further portions were divested to Earl Holding in 1976. ARCO itself was acquired by BP in 2000. Approximately 2500 filling stations remain branded with Sinclair Oil.
