National Gypsum Company
COMPANY
Founded 1925 by Melvin H. Baker, Joseph F. Haggerty, and Clarence E. Williams. National Gypsum acquired Universal Gypsum in 1935, National Mortar and Supply Company in 1951, Abestone Corporation in 1954, and Huron Portland Cement Company in 1960. It emerged from bankruptcy in 1993 and was taken private in 1995. In 2002 it formed a $347M fund to handle asbestos claims.
