Founded 1946 by Duane Peterson, Harley Howell, and Richard Heather.
Acquired 1997 by HFS, Inc., which later became a part of Cendant.
Spun off of Cendant in 2005.
General Electric and Blackstone Group attempted to acquire PHH in 2007, but the deal failed likely due to tighter money conditions surrounding the mortgage crisis. As stipulated by contract, PHH received a $50M "reverse termination" payment from Blackstone.
