COMPANY

Aerospace company, founded 1961 by the merger of The Martin Company with American-Marietta Corporation. A takeover attempt by Bendix in 1982 resulted in the death of Bendix. It merged with Lockheed to form Lockheed Martin in March 1995. In 1996, a portion was spun off as Martin Marietta Materials.
