Founded 1924 as Imperial Airways. In 1939 Imperal was grouped with British Airways, Ltd. and nationalized, forming BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation). British European Airways, the domestic and European carrier, was merged into the company during 1972-74. British Airways was was privatized in 1987.
