Discovery Holding Company was spun off from Liberty Media in 2005, and went public as Discovery Communications in 2008.
Parent of the cable television networks Discovery Channel, TLC (acquired 1991), Animal Planet (acquired 1996), Travel Channel (acquired 1997). Rebroadcasts BBC content as BBC America, and co-owns Oprah Winfrey Network. Also operates a retail chain: The Nature Company was acquired in 1996 and rebranded as Discovery Channel Stores.
Acquired Revision3 in 2012 for a reported $30M.
