COMPANY

Founded as the Cities Service Company in 1910 by Henry L. Dougherty. Introduced the brand CITGO in 1965. Purchased by Occidental Petroleum in 1982, incorporated and then sold to the Southland Corporation (operators of 7-Eleven) in 1983. Southland sold a 50 percent interest in CITGO to Petróleos de Venezuela, SA, the national oil company of Venezuela, in 1986; in 1990, PDVSA purchased the remaining 50 percent.
