Danish historical film dramatizes events surrounding King Christian VII of Denmark's wife's romance with an enlightened royal physician.

ABSTRACT
The year is 1767. The Kingdom of Denmark, ruled under the oppressive fist of King Christian VII, finds itself beholden to the whims of a mentally-ill man with an unquenchable thirst for power. When liberal-minded German doctor and royal confidant Johann Struensee enters the picture, however, he ushers in an era of uncertainty for the European kingdom, as his positive influence on the lonely monarch grows complicated when he embarks on a forbidden romance with Christian's wife, Princess Caroline Matilda of Great Britain. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
