ABSTRACT
Ellis and Neckbone, two rough-and-tumble teenaged males living in the rural Arkansas delta, happen upon a boat stuck in a tree on an island in the Mississippi River one day. Intending to repurpose what they believe to be an abandoned craft as their own, they are instead treated to the existence of Mud, a fugitive who ends up taking them along on a treacherous coming-of-age adventure to evade bounty hunters and reunite with Juniper, an old love.
