ABSTRACT
Global Transportation Systems, a multi-billion dollar American corporation, decides to respond to the ongoing recession by initiating a series of layoffs. Bobby Walker, a well-off mid-ranking member of the firm, is one of the first employees to go, facing a massive reduction in his quality of life that serves to presage the effects of subsequent rounds of layoffs of employees occupying various rungs on the corporate ladder.
