ABSTRACT
Mickey Scarpato, blue-collar resident of the hard-up hellhole of a neighborhood called God’s Pocket, finds his embattled existence thrown into a tailspin when he receives word of wild stepson Leon's death in a construction "accident" one day. An attempt to make his problems go away with Leon's burial is muddled by the arrival of an investigative journalist sniffing for answers, plunging Mickey deeper into emotional turmoil in a neighborhood fit only for the hardiest and blackest of souls.
