Documentary examines the case of a French con artist's impersonation of a missing young man from Texas.

ABSTRACT
In 1997, Frederic Bourdin, a French con artist and serial imposter who would ultimately go on to assume a self-estimated five hundred false identities, entered the lives of the grieving Barclay family of Texas in 1997, claiming to be their missing son Nicholas and to have escaped from a sex-abuse ring operated by American, Mexican, and Spanish military personnel. Bourdin's elaborate lie, which fooled immigration officials and most of the Barclay family despite glaring differences in age and appearance between Frederic and Nicholas, is examined in The Imposter, following the trickster up until his precarious house of cards was eventually toppled by a private investigator.
