Film adaptation of the 2009 novel of the same name follows an aspiring white journalist and her relationship with two black maids amidst the heat of the Civil Rights Era.

Emma Stone stars in this racially-charged drama about "Skeeter" Phelan, an aspiring writer who returns to her family's plantation upon graduating from Ole Miss, only to find that her family's old housekeeper has evidently departed in the time since she first left. Moving on from this unexpected change in circumstances, she endeavors to embark on a career as a colorblind newspaper columnist and novelist, encountering hostility from blacks and racism from fellow whites that she must seek to negate and overcome along the way. Won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer); nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress (Emma Stone).
