In a dark and crowded Gotham City, crime is controlled by boss Carl Grissom and his second-in-command, Jack Napier. During a shootout at a chemical factory, Napier is permanently disfigured; he kills Grissom and takes control of his criminal enterprises, and as "The Joker" embarks on a maniacal scheme to terrorize citizens through their personal hygiene products. Batman and the Joker engage in a climactic battle of wits escalating to dizzying heights. Won an Oscar for Best Set Decoration; received a Hugo nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation.
