ABSTRACT
Ted Crawford, a Los Angeles structural engineer as intelligent as he is twisted, attempts to murder his wife and trap her paramour while taking care to eliminate any detail proving his complicity in the crime. Enter Willy Beachum, a fresh-faced, handsome prosecuting attorney intending to leave the Los Angeles city attorney's office for a plum gig at a private firm, whose reluctant involvement in Crawford's supposedly "open-and-shut" case turns into a nightmare as the brilliant engineer points out "flaw" after "flaw" in the case against him.
