They Made Me a Criminal (21-Jan-1939)

Director: Busby Berkeley

Writer: Sig Herzig

From novel: The Life of Jimmy Nolan by Bertram Millhauser and Beulah Marie Dix

Music by: Max Steiner

Keywords: Crime, Dead End Kids, Boxing

Light-heavyweight boxing champion Johnny Bradfield hides from police with the Dead End Kids after he mistakenly believes he has committed murder during a drinking bender. Interesting if sometimes implausible crime drama by Busby Berkeley, usually known for his musicals. Good performance from a young John Garfield, who saves this film from obscurity.
