ABSTRACT
Top-flight chef Kate leaves New York City to head to mother Margaret's side upstate on account of her worsening dementia. Margaret, a fiercely individualistic ex-newspaper columnist, refuses to go quietly into the night; much the opposite, she eschews Kate's overtures for her to take part in a number of "senior" community programs, kicking off a series of events that see unsavory elements of her past brought to light with the unexpected arrival of an old acquaintance.
