ABSTRACT
Sierra Leone, 1999: The controversial "blood diamond" trade dominates this impoverished West African nation, inspiring conflicts between rebel forces and helpless locals across the war-torn countryside. Caught up in the seemingly endless conflict is native fisherman Solomon Vandy, a man whose discovery of an enormous pink diamond in a riverbank one day places him into the thick of a civil war, and Rhodesian smuggler Danny Archer, who must also answer to more powerful forces.
