Film adaptation of the Douglas Adams novel of the same name follows a hapless Earthly everyman as he is swept up in an intergalactic fiasco.
Arthur Dent is a pitiable figure of a man with problems, his house's impending demolition to make way for a bypass paramount among them. Catching up with buddy Ford Prefect after he is convinced to abandon his futile attempt to delay the destruction of his property by laying down in front of bulldozers in favor of a trip to the pub, Arthur is informed of his friend's existence as an alien from the vicinity of Betelgeuse, brought into a wild adventure to pacify evil throughout the universe after a Vogon Constructor Fleet destroys Earth to make way for an interstellar bypass. Questionable casting sidelines a nonetheless reasonably funny adaptation of brilliant source material, though the film still managed to be a hit at the box office.
