ABSTRACT
Gabita, a Bucharest university student sharing an apartment with fellow student Otilia during the last days of Romania's totalitarian Communist government, is burdened by an unwanted pregnancy. Eschewing the idea of carrying her child to term in a country where abortion is very much illegal, Gabita works with Otilia to acquire the services of Mr. Bebe, a clandestine abortion provider who demands sex with the pair as his payment.
