ABSTRACT
Pulitzer Prize-winning San Jose-Mercury News journalist Gary Webb, in the middle of a long-running series of stories about drug dealers' homes repossessed by the government, receives an explosive scoop when he is made privy to credible allegations about the CIA's involvement in funding Reagan-era Nicaraguan rebels and the out-of-control cocaine trade in California. Sensing the story of a lifetime, Webb pushes his findings to print despite warnings from friends and associates, suffering a character assassination at the hands of larger newspaper publishers and government officials determined to look like the "good guys" in a hard-fought War on Drugs that drives him to suicide after years spent defending his honor.
