ABSTRACT
Vlad Tepes, prince of Transylvania, is accosted by a band of Turkish warlords demanding a thousand young men for service in the Turkish army; Vlad refuses, though he lacks adequate military manpower in his own domain to handle the consequences of his decision. Desperate to keep the peace in his realm, Vlad enters into a Faustian deal with a powerful vampire, granting him untold strength while setting into motion events that would transform Tepes into the infamous Count Dracula.
