ABSTRACT
Lilya is a sixteen-year old resident of an impoverished corner of the former Soviet Union, dreaming of a better life while she spends her days waiting for an invitation to live with her mother in the United States that never comes. A chance encounter with young man Andrei brings Lilya an invitation to move to Sweden, with promises of a better life out west; her new surroundings prove to be anything but, as she is tragically forced into work in the underground sex trade.
