Austrian Jules and French Jim share a lifelong friendship; both fall in love with Catherine, a peculiar free-spirited French woman. World War I intervenes and separates the two, and Jules marries Catherine and they have a daughter. When peace is concluded the love triangle moves into an Austrian cottage.
