Gladys Glover, from upstate New York, has just lost her girdle modeling job. She invests her life savings to splash her name on a billboard. It turns out someone else wanted that particular billboard; she parlays this into a trade for billboards sprinkled throughout Manhattan, becoming an instant minor celebrity. Jack Lemmon, in his film debut, plays a photographer who falls in love with her. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design.
