Part one of a two-part sex epic by Melancholia director Lars von Trier, Nymphomaniac: Vol. I centers on the story of Joe, a self-proclaimed nymphomaniac and middle-aged woman who recalls her heady days of sexual exploit to a man by the name of Seligman after he saves her from a savage beating in an alley one night. Positively received by critics, favorable press surrounding Nymphomaniac: Vol. I was overshadowed somewhat by supporting actor Shia LaBeouf's bizarre public behavior in the months leading up to its release.
