Political documentary examines the controversial life and times of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden through the eyes of filmmaker Laura Poitras.

ABSTRACT
January 2013: An anonymous source nicknamed "CITIZENFOUR" begins sending encrypted messages to documentarian Laura Poitras, their missives detailing NSA-backed American surveillance programs going well beyond the general public's knowledge. Intrigued by the seemingly credible transmissions and well aware of their far-reaching consequences if true, Poitras ships off to Hong Kong with journalists Glenn Greenwald and Ewen MacAskill to conduct a series of interviews with "CITIZENFOUR", now known as infamous whistleblower Edward Snowden. Citizenfour is Poitras' firsthand account of one of the most explosive scoops in the history of investigative journalism.
