Andy Dufrense is a banker, unjustly convicted from circumstantial evidence of the murder of his wife and her lover. He forms a friendship with Red, a procurer and dealer in prison contraband. Unlike Andy, he is guilty of his crime; their bond permits him to reevaluate himself. Received 7 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay. But this was the year of Forrest Gump (1994), and in retrospect, they was robbed.
