ABSTRACT
Well-off teenager Shaun Brumder enjoys a carefree lifestyle in Orange County, California, indulging in a steady diet of surf, sex, and alcohol despite his evident academic giftedness. Driven to become a success-obsessed bookworm following best friend Lonny's startling death in a surfing accident, Shaun develops an obsession with being accepted into the prestigious Stanford University, something that turns into a drug-filled quest towards realizing his big dream after his application is accidentally rejected thanks to a mixup on the watch of an inept guidance counselor.
