Saturday Night Fever (16-Dec-1977)

Director: John Badham

Writer: Norman Wexler

Based on a book: Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night by Nik Cohn (magazine article)

Original Music by: Barry Gibb; Robin Gibb; Maurice Gibb

Producer: Robert Stigwood

Keywords: Drama, Disco, New York

Tony Manero, Italian youth from Brooklyn, is alive and at the top when on the dance floor; anywhere else he is a nobody, working at a paint store and frustrated with his station in life. He meets Stephanie; they become dance partners, enter a contest, and fall in love. Excellent soundtrack featuring the Bee Gees and The Trammps. John Travolta received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, but more importantly, turned him into a permanent cultural icon. Spawned a much-inferior sequel, Staying Alive (1983).
