ABSTRACT
Loosely adapted from the first volume of the late-1990s comic book series sharing its name, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a heady, campy, superhero film set in an alternate Victorian-era Earth in which an assortment of famous literary characters in our world exist side by side in the flesh. Storied (yet aging) adventurer Allan Quatermain agrees to temporarily postpone his plans for retirement to serve the British Empire in defusing tensions with Germany, banding together with characters as wild and whimsical as Captain Nemo and Tom Sawyer for a mission to undermine a mad criminal called "The Fantom"'s plans for global domination, risking life and limb in a high-stakes attempt to preserve a measure of peace in the world.
