Ziegfeld Girl (25-Apr-1941)

Director: Robert Z. Leonard

Writers: Sonya Levien; William Anthony McGuire; Marguerite Roberts

Musical Score by: Herbert Stothart

Producer: Pandro S. Berman

Keywords: Musical, Romantic Drama, Prohibition

Three up-and-coming MGM stars, Lana Turner, Judy Garland, and Hedy Lamarr are chosen as prospective Ziegfeld Girls in roles specifically tailored for them. Lana is discovered by Ziegfeld himself as a lift operator in a department store; Judy, daughter of a vaudevillian, joins as a chorus girl; Hedy, an exotic foreign beauty, is hired for the chorus when she attends a violin audition with her husband. Overly melodramatic musical with big production numbers and outlandish costumes. Production cost $1.47M, earned $3.9M on release.
