Calamity Jane (4-Nov-1953)|
Director: David Butler
Writer: James O'Hanlon
Producer: William Jacobs
Keywords: Western/Comedy, Musical, Biography
A saloon owner sends for a vaudeville actress from Chicago but a miscommunication leaves him without. He dresses up her agent in drag and tries to pass him off as a female; it does not go well. Calamity Jane offers to retrieve the actress, bringing back a female but it's the wrong one. They make do. Though liberties were taken with historical accuracy, Doris Day is perfection in one of the greatest of musicals. Winner of Oscar for Best Song.
