Awarded for outstanding achievements in poetry, literature, music, and drama; also for excellence in journalism: reporting, commentary, editorials, criticism, cartoons, and photographs. Winners receive $10,000 and a gold medal. Founded in 1917. Named after newspaper publishing magnate Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911).
