Formed 2003 by the merger of the two foundations which trace their origins to those philanthropies founded by DeWitt and Lila Wallace -- the DeWitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. It has total assets of about $1.5B, making it among the top 40 in the US.
