American Family Association

ORGANIZATION

Christian "traditional values" activist group, founded 1977 by Rev Don Wildmon. Known for lawsuits, boycotts, and protests against abortion, pornography, gay rights, etc., and for its American Family Radio network, a nationwide chain of approximately 200 radio stations that supports AFA's work. Also operates two auxiliary projects called One Million Moms and One Million Dads, neither of which has anything approaching one million members and both of which reliably protest against companies that include gay couples in advertising, Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue, etc.

"AFA is one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country with over two million online supporters and approximately 180,000 paid subscribers to the AFA Journal, the ministry's monthly magazine. In addition, AFA owns and operates nearly 200 radio stations across the country under the American Family Radio (AFR) banner."
