Right-wing political group founded in 1943 to oppose a proposal then in Congress that would have provided universal health care for Americans. Since that success, AAPS has opposed the establishment of Medicare/Medicaid as "evil" and "immoral", suggested that the FDA's existence is unconstitutional, publicized the discredited notion that vaccines cause autism, promoted false claims linking abortion and breast cancer, opposed the 2009 Affordable Care Act and later sued the government in an attempt to block enactment of the ACA, and questioned the consensus of medical research linking HIV to AIDS and studies linking human activity to climate change.
