Earlier an editor of Wired magazine, Battelle is perhaps best known as the founder of The Industry Standard, a dotcom-era publication that inexplicably declared bankruptcy in 2001 despite having riches of $200M in advertising revenues the previous year. He is presently the owner of Federated Media Publishing, an Internet advertising network with fringe "flagship" clients on the web -- Boing Boing, Del.icio.us, Metafilter, FARK, Digg, and others. More recently, Battelle has produced an insightful column, Searchblog, and is the author of The Search (2005), explaining the rise of Google.
