White supremacist Hal Turner hosts an internet radio show, which got him arrested in June 2009 for allegedly inciting violence by telling listeners to "take up arms" against elected officials. Less than two weeks later he was arrested again, for alleged on-air death threats against federal judges William J. Bauer, Frank H. Easterbrook, and Richard Posner, after they upheld Chicago's handgun ban. Turner was the state's coordinator for Pat Buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign, and a frequent and welcome caller to Sean Hannity's radio show until about 2007, when Hannity stopped taking his calls.
In preparing his legal defense, Turner's attorney said that Turner had worked as a paid informant for the FBI. On 28 July 2009, US Attorney William Hogan told a federal judge that Turner's relationship with the FBI had ended "some time ago", and records later revealed that Turner — code name "Valhalla" — provided FBI anti-terror investigators with information about his followers for about five years, beginning in 2002.
In 2010, Turner was convicted of threatening to murder three federal judges and was sentenced to 25 months in prison.
