Dentist elected to US Congress in 2010, succeeding Ann Kirkpatrick and representing the rural 1st District of Arizona. Conservative "Tea Party" Republican; anti-abortion rights, pro-gun rights, pro-offshore drilling. Campaigned refusing to debate the incumbent and other opponents, but called for tax and deficit reduction, deploying soldiers to defend the US-Mexico border, and repeal of 2010 health care reform.

Made the news in 2015 for boycotting an address to Congress by Pope Francis, claiming that the Pope's encyclical on climate change "has adopted all of the socialist talking points, wrapped false science and ideology into 'climate justice' and is being presented to guilt people into leftist policies."

Spoke at a white nationalist event on 26 February 2021.[1]
