In a landmark 1991 study, geophysicist Raymond Hide determined that the Earth's rotation is slowing ever-so-slightly. He has also studied the motions and magnetohydrodynamic oscillations of the Earth's core, nonlinear systems, atmospheric excitation of Earth's rotation, and the atmosphere of Jupiter.
