Executive summary: First openly gay player drafted by the NFL SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, and projected by experts to be a 3rd-round NFL draft pick in 2014 before publicly coming out as gay. After that announcement, he was instead selected in the draft's 7th and final round by the St. Louis Rams, and cut from the roster during pre-season. He then spent several weeks working out with the non-roster practice squad for the Dallas Cowboys before being cut again, and briefly played with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
If he signs with another NFL team, he could become the first openly gay man to play pro football in America.
