Aided Ian Brady in the rape and murder of five children, 1963-1965. The bodies were buried in shallow graves on Saddleworth Moor, Manchester, leading the crimes to be referred to as the Moors Murders. Hindley was sentenced to life imprisonment on 6 May 1966. News of her crimes was received with horror by the public, to the extent that the name Myra was all but abandoned. Though she reformed, the British government repeatedly forestalled and eventually quashed her right to a parole hearing.
