Brilliant mathematician who published several noteworthy papers on the boundary property of continuous functions, and the boundary functions and sets of curvilinear convergence for continuous functions. He then abandoned the tenure track at Harvard to live a hermit's life in a remote cabin in the woods of Montana, where he constructed his infamous mail bombs that killed three people and injured 22 others.
