In 2001, Peter Nordstrom's ex-girlfriend for many years, Stacy Pinney, filed a lawsuit against Peter and the company alleging repeated sexual harassment. She then sued a Seattle weekly newspaper, The Stranger, after it published an article by Eli Sanders in October 2002, "Uncomfortable Suit: Nordstrom Challenges Sexual Harassment Allegations." The article details their relationship as well as Nordstrom's habit of dating company employees. In summary judgment, the court ruled in Nordstrom's favor, and Pinney's lawsuit against the newspaper was dismissed in 2004.
