Dolores DeFina was a Bronx-born bar singer, who worked in 1934 at the Vogue Club in New York under the stage name Dolores Reade. Bob Hope, then a somewhat successful Broadway actor, stopped in for a drink one night, and Dolores says it was "love at first song" when she sang "It's Only a Paper Moon". They were married a few months later, and after that her professional singing gigs were limited to appearances alongside Hope in his vaudeville act, on his decades of tours entertaining the troops, and on some of his hundreds of TV specials. In the 1990s and 2000s, she recorded a series of albums as Dolores Hope, featuring both older and more recent material performed in the style of a 1930s lounge singer. Bob sometimes sang backup vocals, and in 1997, she performed for two weeks with long-time friend Rosemary Clooney.
