Executive summary: Flush Times of Alabama and Mississippi

Alabama state legislator 1844-9 as a Whig. His most celebrated work, Flush Times in Alabama and Mississippi, documented in humorous manner his life as a frontier lawyer. Baldwin then moved to California during the late part of the Gold Rush, and became a Judge on the Supreme Court of California 1857-64, the final year of which he was Chief Justice of that court.
