Night-club hostess who in a moment of rage shot and killed her abusive boyfriend David Blakely outside a Hampstead pub in full view of patrons, afterward asking them to call the police on her. Following a brief trial, she was hanged at the Holloway Prison for women three months later, the last woman to be executed in England. Her case caused a great public stir, prompting the abolition of the death penalty ten years later.
